Uk bla: StarGate drone evacuates two severely wounded Ukrainian soldiers near Russian border

Ukrainian troops of the 475th Separate Assault Regiment CODE 9.2 used the StarGate evacuation drone to airlift two severely wounded soldiers from the grey zone about five kilometres from the Russian border. Ground evacuation was reportedly impossible because of difficult terrain, water obstacles and the threat of Russian FPV drones. One soldier, 24-year-old Artem, had one leg amputated at a Kharkiv hospital.

要点

  • StarGate evacuated 25-year-old Yevhen, call sign “Izum”, and 24-year-old Artem, call sign “Kolobok”.
  • Both soldiers suffered severe limb injuries and were about five kilometres from the Russian border.
  • Terrain, water obstacles and Russian FPV drones made ground evacuation impossible.
  • StarGate flew nearly 30 kilometres to the wounded soldier and returned over roughly the same distance with him aboard.
  • The drone completed a mission despite the enemy attempting to jam its satellite navigation.
  • CODE 9.2 conducted two evacuation missions during the week with support from the StarGate developer SkyFall.
  • The regiment plans to create a dedicated sanitary aviation unit within its medical company.

なぜ重要か

The airlift enabled the evacuation of severely wounded soldiers who could not be extracted overland because of terrain, water obstacles and the threat of Russian FPV drones. The missions also demonstrated that casualty evacuation can be conducted near the frontline despite attempts to disrupt the drone’s satellite navigation. CODE 9.2 intends to institutionalise the approach through crew training, regular air evacuations and a dedicated sanitary aviation unit.

何が起きたか

Troops from the 475th Separate Assault Regiment CODE 9.2 evacuated two severely wounded soldiers from adjacent units with the StarGate air-evacuation drone. The wounded were 25-year-old Yevhen, call sign “Izum”, and 24-year-old Artem, call sign “Kolobok”, from the 129th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade. Both had severe limb injuries and were located in the grey zone about five kilometres from Russia’s border.

Ground evacuation was considered impossible because of the difficult terrain, water obstacles and the threat of Russian FPV drones. During one mission, StarGate flew nearly 30 kilometres to reach the wounded soldier and covered approximately the same distance back with him aboard. The operation involved additional personnel and equipment, including Vampire heavy-strike drones providing fire support.

The enemy actively used electronic warfare to suppress satellite navigation. StarGate nevertheless completed the mission using its AI-based navigation system and the pilots’ expertise. Over the week, CODE 9.2 conducted two evacuation missions with assistance from SkyFall, the team that developed and manufactures the drone. Artem was delivered to a Kharkiv hospital, where one leg was amputated.

Ukrainian reporting focuses on the severity of the soldiers’ injuries, the operational obstacles faced during extraction, the combat support provided during the missions and the interference with satellite navigation. It also highlights the technical role of StarGate and SkyFall and the regiment’s plans to make air evacuation a regular practice.

背景

StarGate was developed and manufactured by the SkyFall team. Earlier, on 4 October, the Heavy Shot Ayudag-6 drone was used to evacuate a soldier from the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade who had spent more than a year in the grey zone on the left bank of the Oskol.
